You’ll have to leave it to your late night fantasies to imagine what could’ve been with previous iterations involving Michael Fassbender and Margot Robbie, and Charlie Hunnam and Rosamund Pike, but a few months back it was revealed that Fox 2000 was pressing ahead with Idris Elba leading “The Mountain Between Us,” and now he has a pretty terrific co-star to get romantic with.
Kate Winslet has joined the Hany Abu-Assad (“Paradise Now,” “Omar”) -directed movie, based on the novel by Charles Martin, that sees love bloom between Ashley, a writer heading east for her wedding, who meets Ben, a doctor. When their flight is cancelled, the two charter a flight only to have their pilot suffer a heart attack. The plane crashes into a mountain and so the two fight the elements and their injuries to return to civilization.
So, think of “The Revenant” except the journey will end with Winslet and Elba in each other’s arms, instead of weary Leonardo DiCaprio half-dead, looking directly at the camera. Production will begin in December. [THR]
