‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Trailer: Gareth Edwards Gives Us Dinosaurs This Summer

After the commercial success of “Jurassic World: Dominion,” it was inevitable that Universal would eventually go back to the world of “Jurassic Park”, despite the largely negative reviews the last installment received. What surprised most moviegoers, however, was that the latest entry in the franchise would happen so soon after the allegedly “final” “Jurassic World” movie. But when money’s on the table, one absolutely understands why Universal decided to do more with one of its biggest intellectual properties alongside “The Fast & The Furious.”

Enter “Jurassic World Rebirth,” the seventh overall installment in the “Jurassic Park,” series. A new installment, considered a soft reboot (previous characters won’t be appearing) helmed by genre filmmaker Gareth Edwards (“The Creator”), with a script written by veteran screenwriter David Koepp. The latter returns to the franchise after collaborating with Steven Spielberg to bring Michael Crichton’s book to life in the 1993 original and its sequel, “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.” The film is set five years after the event of Colin Trevorrow’s “Dominion,” and focuses on how the planet has now become more inhospitable to dinosaurs than ever before ever since the 2022 movie.

Scarlett Johansson leads the new cast, with Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Ed Skrein rounding up the supporting players. Our main trio of characters (Johansson, Bailey, and Ali) in “Rebirth” are tasked to enter a new unexplored island (not seen in the other six films) that was the original site of John Hammond’s lab experiments featuring some much different and dangerous dinosaurs that have been fending for themselves for the last thirty years.

Here is the official plot synopsis:

“Five years after the events of ‘Jurassic World Dominion,’ the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.”

Produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, “Jurassic World Rebirth” will be released exclusively in theatres on July 2 alongside fellow summer blockbuster heavyweights coming out in the same month like “Superman” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” Edwards takes the reins from Trevorrow after dipping his toes in VFX-heavy franchise sandboxes with efforts such as “Godzilla” and “Rogue One: Star Wars Story,” making him a great fit for the “Jurassic World” universe.
