Ever since the success of “Deadpool,” and the subsequent success of “Logan,” Marvel‘s Kevin Feige has been pressed by fans and journalists about whether or not the hugely successful comic book movie studio would ever roll the dice on an R-rated movie. The executive’s message has pretty much been consistent, crediting 20th Century Fox for taking a risk and respecting the source material, while maintaining that Marvel isn’t in any rush to follow suit. However, that might be changing.
Speaking with Allocine, Feige appeared a little more open to the idea of an R-rated Marvel movie. “I don’t think it’s out of the question. When I started at Marvel seventeen years ago, the ‘Blade‘ franchise was doing very well. A lot of people didn’t even know that it was based on a Marvel character because at the time they sort of hid the fact it was Marvel. So, not out of the question, but not something we’re working on right now,” he said.

So, it’s a variation on a familiar response by Feige; essentially, don’t hold your breath for an R-rated Marvel movie anytime soon. And it’s worth remembering that the studio is owned by four-quadrant mega-corp Disney, who aren’t really in the business of selling edgy, adult-oriented movies.
Meanwhile, Feige clarified where Sony‘s upcoming “Venom” will sit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and as expected, there won’t be any crossover.
“For now, there is no plan for Venom in the MCU. It’s a Sony Project,” Feige bluntly declared.
