The Zellner brothers are currently enjoying the fact that their sasquatch comedy (definitely a peculiar subgenre of film), “Sasquatch Sunset,” is in the middle of its theatrical run in the U.S. But that doesn’t mean they’re not planning what’s next. And what’s next, currently titled “Alpha Gang,” involves one of the best actors on the planet.
According to Variety, Cate Blanchett is set to star in “Alpha Gang,” a new comedy film written and directed by the Zellner brothers. The film is said to be an alien invasion film where the aliens that come to Earth are disguised as a ‘50s biker gang. However, once they begin to spend time on our planet, they develop emotions, throwing their whole plan into jeopardy. Yes, this is very much a Zellner premise.
“The Zellner brothers’ work never fails to surprise and delight us,” said Blanchett. “In ‘Alpha Gang,’ they have created a far out world in order to lampoon something much closer to home: the hilarious, absurd, and peculiar truth of the human condition.”
Blanchett, as mentioned above, is easily one of the best actors working today. Her recent roles include “Tar,” “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” “Don’t Look Up,” and “Nightmare Alley.” Her next big feature is the much anticipated video game adaptation, “Borderlands.”
“Alpha Gang” is set to be part of the Cannes film market, where it will be looking for a studio to partner with. And with Blanchett aboard, you have to assume there won’t be any issues finding someone willing to foot the bill.
