It’s been four years since Leos Carax blew minds with “Holy Motors,” and the filmmaker, whose never been in a particular rush between movies, has slowly been gearing up his next effort. In early 2015, Ron and Russell Mael of Sparks revealed they had already started work on a musical with Carax, and later that year, Adam Driver and Rooney Mara were said to be circling roles. All has gone quiet since, but it seems the project is still percolating and is gearing up to head in front of cameras.

Buried in a report from the American Film Market by Screen Daily comes the news that Carax’s film, titled “Annette,” is now in pre-production. That is exactly all the info they have, but 123 Casting has revealed that filming will be taking place in December, and they have a logline for the movie:
The film is a musical, telling the tragic story of a stand-up comedian whose opera singer wife is deceased. He finds himself alone with his 2 years old daughter who has a surprising gift.
There’s no word if Driver and Mara are still involved, or if they have moved on. In fact, the actress already has a musical on her schedule with Brady Corbet‘s “Vox Lux,” which is due to start production in February. I don’t think she would do back-to-back musicals, but then again, anything is possible.
Hopefully, more news on “Annette” will surface in the days and weeks ahead, but it looks like a new Leos Carax movie is on the way.
