Trailer For Netflix Indie Thriller 'Rebirth' Offers A New Beginning

The trailer for the upcoming Netflix thriller “Rebirth” has landed, and it looks like the streaming service is launching its indie movie initiative on the right foot. The film follows Kyle (Fran Kranz) as he reluctantly joins a self-help seminar called Rebirth, only to find that everything isn’t what it seems.

“Rebirth” is the first of an indie movie initiative Netflix is collaborating on with filmmakers. The movies, all with budgets of around $2 million, are part of the service’s global film strategy. Other films developed in this manner will be “The Most Hated Woman in America” starring Melissa Leo and an untitled music film by Walter Robot starring Sarah Hyland.

Netflix has become the go-to place for indie filmmakers looking to expose larger audiences to their films. These low budget films are offered alongside with their big budget counterparts, giving audiences choices most often unavailable at the local multiplex. Understanding that its customers enjoy discovering something new, Netflix has spent billions on developing original content, and it’s nice to know they are offering some diversity, and aren’t just shepherding super expensive prestige fare.

Written and directed by Karl Mueller, “Rebirth” co-stars, Adam Goldberg, Kat Foster, Harry Hamlin, Pat Healey, and Steve Agee.“Rebirth” will debut July 15th on Netflix.
