Got a Tip?

10 Shows to Watch in June: ‘Big Little Lies,’ ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ & More

“Euphoria”
What You Need to Know: It’s hard to be a teen, something that storytelling ventures – television in particular – have mined from for decades, with everything from “The O.C.,” to “90210” and “Riverdale” making their mark in popular culture for taking the coming-of-age genre and giving it an edge. “Euphoria,” the upcoming HBO drama series starring Zendaya, is pulling from that playbook but amplifying the noise that comes with it. Trailers so far have been impressive and the story is grappling with areas such as addiction and body positivity that many will gravitate towards. From last year’s director of “Assassination Nation,” Sam Levinson, “Euphoria” will hopefully live up to its dazzling and dizzying trailer.
Release Date: Season one premiers on June 16th on HBO.

“Legion”
What You Need to Know: And here we have our third and final entry to the class of “should have ended earlier” series on our list, much to our chagrin. For all of its wild gambles that missed the mark, there was something visually wicked right around the corner or a terrifying and musical interlude with Aubrey Plaza at the helm to help curb those pitfalls. Show-runner Noah Hawley allowed his ambitions to run ahead of plausibility with season two, however, dimming some of the excitement for the third and final series. However, perhaps with finality on the margins, things will get back on track as we are plunged into more, literal, “Alice in Wonderland” worlds and time shifts. Hawley is still one of the most interesting filmmakers working in television today, making the final season of such a daring show a must-watch even if the landing is messy.
Release Date: The third season premiers on June 24th on FX.

“The Loudest Voice”
What You Need to Know: Not to become an echo chamber, but the world is on fire, everything is garbage and sometimes, being the masochists that we are, we want to see our stark humanity reflected back at us. Will this Roger Ailes story about his rise and fall as Chairman and CEO at Fox News miss the mark and ask us to sympathize with the man? Will it rely too heavily on our addiction to the latest scandal? We can’t tell yet, but Russell Crowe and Naomi Watts’ involvement promise at least a first episode engagement.
Release Date: The first season premiers on June 30th on Showtime.
