Got a Tip?

11 TV Shows To Watch In January

“True Detective”
What You Need To Know: Following a critically acclaimed first season, “True Detective” suffered a few missteps, but is poised to return to form in Season 3. After the influx of mixed reviews, the HBO thriller returns after a long absence. Despite it all, the haunting original series returns this January starring Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali in hopes of regaining its former glory.  Also starring Stephen Dorff and Carmen Ejogo, Season 3 tells the story of a crime involving two children and plays out in three separate time periods.  Fans of the show will undoubtedly hope that this season breathes new life into the anthology series.
Release Date: Season 3 premieres on January 13 on HBO

Deadly Class
What You Need To Know: SyFy – despite its ridiculous name – has become an increasingly reputable network over the years in terms of its genre-leaning output. Series such as “The Magicians,” “The Expanse,” and “Killjoys” have garnered both positive critical responses and substantial fan followings, breathing fresh life an area of storytelling that could easily become redundant. It makes the premiere of their upcoming, Russo Brotherscreated series “Deadly Class” all the more intriguing, especially with a case including Benedict Wong and “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” breakout Lana Condor.
Release Date: Season 1 Premieres January 16th on SyFy

“Star Trek: Discovery”
What You Need to Know: With the future of the film franchise in limbo, it looks like Trekkies (or is it Trekkers?) are going to latch on even harder to the latest TV spin-off, “Star Trek: Discovery.” Season 1 was met to relatively divisive reviews despite some instantly engaging characters and world building. However, the supporters were eager to support the latest Trek adventure, even with so many new characters. Season 2 will see the anticipated addition of Spock (played here by Ethan Peck), an interesting move considering the place the series holds in canon timeline and what we’ve learned of the character through other iterations.
Release Date: Season 2 premieres January 17th on CBS All Access
