“Marvel’s Runaways” (Hulu)
Synopsis: After discovering their parents are super-villains in disguise, a group of teenagers band together to run away in order to atone for their parents’ actions and to discover the secrets of their origins.
What You Need To Know: Most kids think their parents are EVIL, but what happens when they actually are? Brian K. Vaughn’s Eisner winning Marvel comic is beloved by fans, and so far the series appears to be in goods hands, having been adapted by teen drama pros Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (“Gossip Girl,” “The O.C.”). The buzz has been positive so far, especially for the young cast (Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, Gregg Sulkin and Allegra Acosta). It will be interesting to see how certain characters and storylines will be reimagined but if Hulu plays its cards right, a hit-Marvel/MCU adjacent show will be yet another feather in their cap for 2017.

What You Need To Know: Stephen Soderburgh’s other producing prestige project this month continues Netflix’s slow but steady seduction of top tier talent while simultaneously offering up a new spin on the Western. Directed by Scott Frank (“The Lookout,” “A Walk Among The Tombstones”), “Godless” stars Jack O’Connell (“’71,” “Unbroken”)and Jeff Daniels (“Dumb and Dumber,” “The Newsroom”) as the fractured parters in crime, and are joined by Michelle Dockery, continuing to prove she is a helluva a lot more than Lady Mary (she has been equally as good as the thrifty, shifty con artist Letty in TNT’s “Good Behaviour”), Scoot McNairy (“Argo,” “Halt and Catch Fire”, Thomas Brodie-Sangster (“Game of Thrones,” “Wolf Hall”) and Merritt Weaver (“Nurse Jackie,” “Birdman”). This unique Western looks to be packed with enough twists and turns to attract old and new Western fans alike.

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (Amazon)
Cast: Rachel Brosnahan, Matilda Szydagis, Doris McCarthy
Synopsis: A housewife in the early 1960s decides to become a stand-up comic.
What You Need to Know: One of the least talked about television shows on this list in lead up to its premiere, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” which will debut on Amazon touts one of the most intriguing premises of any series debuting in November. Fitting in with type of “comedies” we’ve seen from the streaming so far such as “Transparent” and “Mozart in the Jungle,” this series starring Rachel Brosnahan presents a darker edge with its laughs. With heaps of talent on board and a story that allows the leading female character to take charge of her own agency, this should be one not to miss.
