'1313': A New, Dark Reimagining Of 'The Munsters' In Development

It was only a matter of time before “The Munsters” got a reboot. But the upcoming series, titled “1313,” appears to be a very unique take on the classic sitcom.

According to Deadline, it appears that UCP is developing a new version of “The Munsters” with a series called “1313.” The report claims this is a “darker reimagining” of the sitcom, whatever that means. Are we looking at a prestige drama attempt for “The Munsters” or just a show that leans more into the monster aspects of the premise.

For those who didn’t watch “The Munsters,” the show told the story of the title family, each representing various Universal Monster archetypes. Vampires, Frankenstein’s monster, Wolfman, stuff like that. The show mixed the monsters with the classic sitcom tropes found in series like “Honeymooners.” You know, the doofus dad who gets set straight by his wife, but in “The Munsters,” the dad is a towering monster.

Over the years, there have been so many attempts to reboot the series. And actually, we saw a reboot of “The Munsters” in Rob Zombie’s 2022 film. In addition to that, about a decade ago, producer Bryan Fuller tried to reboot the series as “Mockingbird Lane,” which was supposed to be a darker take on the characters. That series didn’t move forward. Then another series, in 2017, was in development with Seth Myers producing. Again, that didn’t move forward.

Obviously, it’s far too soon to know if “1313” will actually get produced or if it will turn into yet another ‘Munsters’ reboot attempt that fails to deliver.
