“Koala Man”
Brandishing an excellent voice cast that includes Michael Cusack, Sarah Snook, Demi Lardner, Jemaine Clement, and Hugh Jackman, and executive produced by Justin Roiland, one of the minds behind “Rick and Morty” and “Solar Opposites,” Hulu premieres its latest adult-animated series with “Koala Man.” Created by animator Cusack (who also voices the titular hero,) the series follows a middle-aged dad Kevin and his secret identity, whose superpower is a passion for rule following and snuffing out petty crime. Combining the mundane (Kevin’s disdain for people who don’t take their trash out on the right day) with the ridiculous (suburban vigilantism) “Koala Man” is poised to be one of the month’s bigger surprises.
Release Date: Season 1 premieres January 9 on Hulu.
“The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House”
Acclaimed filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (“Broker,” “Shoplifters”) is making his debut on Netflix with his first drama series, “The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House.” Based on the best-selling manga by Aiko Koyama, the series follows Kiyo (Nana Mori) who has moved to Kyoto to pursue a career as a Makanai – a traditional cook – for a house of Maiko – apprentice geishas. Natsuki Deguchi, Aju Makita, Kairi Jyo, and more also star.
Release Date: Season 1 premieres on January 12 on Netflix.
“Servant”
Executively produced by M. Night Shyamalan and starring Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, Nell Tiger Free, and Rupert Grint, “Servant” is back for its fourth and final season. While the Apple TV+ series hasn’t met the same level of critical acclaim as some of the other shows on the streaming service it has built a strong following. The last season will follow the Turner family in their final chapter as they continue to fight against threats that arose in past seasons.
Release Date: Season 4 premieres on January 13 on Apple TV+.
“Hunters”
Logan Lerman and Al Pacino return for the second season of the Nazi-hunting Amazon series “Hunters.” Following a plan gone awry in Europe, the Hunters must band back together to hunt down Adolf Hitler who’s been hiding in South America. Created by David Weil (“Solos”), the conspiracy series acts as an alternate historical drama. Along with Lerman and Pacino, Lena Olin, Josh Radnor, Tiffany Boone, Carol Kane, and more return for the second and final season.
Release Date: Season 2 premieres on January 13 on Amazon.
