4-Minute Featurette Takes You Through The Amazing IMAX Images Of Terrence Malick's 'Voyage Of Time'

When you think of ‘IMAX’ these days, you tend to think of Christopher Nolan’s wide-screen cityscapes, or Zack Snyder levelling buildings, or some kind of similar spectacle. But for the first few decades of its existence, the format was almost a sort of tourist attraction, driven principally by nature documentaries and science shorts captured with the enormous large-format cameras.

So in a way, although it comes from one of the most acclaimed filmmakers of the last half-century, “Voyage Of Time: Life’s Journey,Terrence Malick’s new movie, marks a return to those days. Essentially a history of, well, everything, Malick’s documentary uses state-of-the-art visual effects and stunning photography to capture the evolution of the planet and the species on it.

The longer version of the movie just premiered in Venice a few days ago (where it got a somewhat muted response from our Jessica Kiang), but the shorter, IMAX cut narrated by Brad Pitt is set to unspool at TIFF in the next few days before a release next month, and to help get you amped up, IMAX have debuted a new four-minute featurette that sees the visual effects supervisor Dan Glass talking you through some of the stunning images captured. Also: dinosaurs!

Whether you’re a Malick fan or you think he’s gone off the boil with recent movies, surely this’ll provide some of the most amazing spectacle of the fall. The film hits IMAX theaters on October 7th: watch the featurette below.
