The new poster for upcoming Duplass Brothers film “Cyrus” has landed, and its completely in vein of the film, from John C. Reilly’s “are-you-kidding-me?” yet determined stare to Jonah Hill’s creep show smile and crazy eyes.
The film follows John (Reilly) as he begins courting Molly (Marisa Tomei). Things are going great until he meets Cyrus (Hill), the son of Molly who requires her constant attention. Things get confrontational between John and Cyrus, which lead to hilarious and disturbing situations.
“Cyrus” was a hit at Sundance and is still playing the festival circuit. Fox Searchlight seems to be treating this as their next indie wonder, and will open it limited this summer with possibility of going wider depending on the reaction. We saw the film at SXSW and loved it, calling it “heartbreaking, laugh out loud funny, emotionally textured and at times creepy and dark.”
With the right push the film is certain to be a bonafide hit and hopefully the future bodes well for the Duplass Brothers, who are now at their peak and working in full stride. Still in the shop by Duplass Brothers is “Table 19” (about a singles table at a wedding reception), “Jeff Who Lives at Home” (Segel/Helms stoner quest movie), and though it was lost amidst “Cyrus” buzz, it seems that micro-budge brother competition comedy “The-Do-Deca-Penthalon” is completed, but news on that one is scarce. Either way, “Cyrus” opens in limited release July 9th and we implore you to check it out.
