Got a Tip?

First ‘Black Panther’ Deleted Scene Focuses On Okoye’s Marital Strife

The stars certainly aligned for Marvel’s “Black Panther” back in February. Even with expectations through the roof, the Ryan Coogler-directed (“Fruitvale Station” and “Creed”) film utterly damaged the box office and still stands as Marvel’s #1 grossing film of all time domestically (though it’s possible “Avengers: Infinity War” has something to say about that).

The film, in case you lived under a rock, starred Chadwick Boseman returning as the titular Black Panther aka T’Challa, as well as Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Martin Freeman,  Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis, and Winston Duke.

Of course, one of the highlights was Danai Gurira as Okoye, the leader of the all-female fighting force and Wakanda security force the Dora Milaje and the character’s husband W’Kabi (Daniel Kaluuya) the former head of security for Wakanda’s Border Tribe as well as T’Challa’s best friend (not so bff after the movie).

“Black Panther” obviously features a lot of internecine politics and when Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) arrives he upends the status quo and makes several Wakandas lose their faith in T’Challa. This first deleted clip show some major marital strike as Okoye is living with W’Kabi for helping the villain, Killmonger, gain entry into the Tribal Council room.

“This is what you would have me leave the Dora for, to bring our children into this world where they become conquerors?” Okoye says. “Yes,” her husband responds. “Our children will be leaders of a truly free world, not just a tiny country where we have to hide everything that makes us great. There will be war and death but in the end, it will be beautiful. And Wakanda will stand tall,” W’Kabi says.

“Black Panther” is slated to arrive as a digital download on May 8, with the Blu-ray release set to follow a week later on May 15. The clip is worth a look. No spoilers, but you can see more of Okoye, W’Kabi, and T’Challa in ‘Infinity War,’ but *spoiler,* you may not see that Starbucks.[via USA Today]
