Got a Tip?

‘Anon’ Trailer: Amanda Seyfried & Clive Owen Break The System

In the past 48 hours, I’ve been hearing a lot about Vero and HQ Trivia. They’re the latest social media apps and games that have everyone plugged to their smartphone, and probably handing over loads of personal data to tech companies who promise they won’t exploit or use it for nefarious purposes. Right. At any rate, it’s enough to make you sometimes want to go off the grid. Well, “Anon” feeds into the feeling.

The new movie from Andrew Niccol (“Gattaca,” “Lord Of War,” “In Time“) stars Amanda Seyfried and Clive Owen, and is set in a near-future world where there is no privacy, ignorance or anonymity. Private memories are recorded and crime almost ceases to exist. In trying to solve a series of unsolved murders, Sal Frieland (Owen) stumbles onto a young woman (Seyfried) who appears to have subverted the system and disappeared. She has no identity, no history and no record. Sal realizes it may not be the end of crime but the beginning. Known only as The Girl, Sal must find her before he becomes the next victim.

So, basically, it’s a tech thriller and kinda ropey sounding one at that. “Anon” opens in Greece and the U.K. in May, but and will hit Netflix in the U.S. later this year.
