Sacha Baron Cohen In Talks To Bring An ‘Ali G Show’-Esque Series To Showtime

It sounds like we’re getting a new comedy series from Sacha Baron Cohen sooner than we thought. After a cryptic tweet on July 4 that promised the return of Cohen, with the assumption there was something Donald Trump-related, people have been speculating what his next project might be. Well, according to Variety, it sounds like it’s going to be a series on Showtime.

The report claims that the actor is on the cusp of signing with Showtime for a new untitled series that is said to be very similar to his incredibly popular “Da Ali G Show,” from over a decade ago. Details of what exactly the format might be and what characters he might play are still unknown at the time, but it does feel like the pieces that we’ve been collecting over the last several months are finally coming together.

Back in February, it was reported that Cohen had secretly taped an interview with O.J. Simpson for an unnamed project. No one knew what it was, but reports claimed that the comedian was in character at the time of the interview. While people were unsure what Sacha Baron Cohen had up his sleeve, the real story, at the time, revolved around Simpson receiving payment for the interview, which concerned many people.

Then, at the end of June, Showtime released a video about an upcoming comedy series that was coming to the channel in July. The teaser was just a paragraph onscreen talking about how the network was unable to say who the star was, the name of the show, or the premise. All they could say is the show was premiering July 15.

And of course, earlier this week, Cohen had the tweet that targeted Trump and mentioned that “Sacha Baron Cohen graduates SOON.” Now, with this report about Showtime being involved, the clues say that these might all be connected and we could be getting a new comedy series from the mysterious comedian sooner than later.
