“What the hell!?”
I think I said that about 4 times during the new clip for Luca Guadagnino’s “Suspiria.” Keep in mind, I’m a huge fan of the Dario Argento classic, but this clip shows just how the remake is going to differentiate itself from the original. And make no mistake, it’s creepy as hell.

The clip begins with Tilda Swinton (always magical) asking her troupe of dancers to prepare for a new dance about rebirth, with Dakota Johnson’s character being given the opportunity to “improvise freely” for her part in the routine. And it’s that improvisation that is the heart of the clip and the ensuing creepiness.
The “Suspiria” clip also shows more of how the strikingly muted colors that Guadagnino has chosen for his remake add something different to his version of the story. Everything feels…terrible. But in the best possible way.
We’ve written at length about everything to do with this new film, and it’s great that we’re finally getting something more than pictures to judge it on. The newly released trailer, combined with this new clip, are starting to paint a picture of just what Guadagnino has in mind for the film that he hopes will “disturb” audiences like never before.
“Suspiria” is premiering at the upcoming Venice Film Festival, which kids off tomorrow. And then audiences not lucky enough to see it at a film festival will get a chance to experience all 152 minutes of dread when the film hits theaters on November 2.
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
A darkness swirls at the center of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the troupe’s artistic director (Swinton), an ambitious young dancer (Johnson), and a grieving psychotherapist (Ebersdorf). Some will succumb to the nightmare. Others will finally wake up.
