Jessica Chastain Hires 'The Help's' Tate Taylor To Direct 'Eve' After Former Helmer's Controversial Exit

Jessica Chastain needs a little “help” after the recent controversy surrounding the director of her upcoming film, “Eve.” And who does she call? Well, obviously Tate Taylor, director of Chastain’s hit film “The Help.”

In an apparent unintentional upgrade behind the camera, Taylor has signed on to direct the action-thriller, “Eve,” after former director Matthew Newton dropped out when past domestic violence incidents resurfaced. Now, Taylor takes over Newton’s script and will reunite with his Oscar-nominated actress for another film, via THR.

Not much is known about “Eve.” All that has been reported is that the indie film is a character study-meets-action film, with Chastain starring. The film was written by Newton, but one has to assume that Taylor will take a stab at it as well, as the director is known for writing and directing his films. Chastain isn’t just starring in “Eve,” either. Her production company, Freckle Films, is responsible for the film, which is why the Newton controversy began in the first place, as the actress has been vocal about never working with “abusers” in her career.

As mentioned, Taylor and Chastain have previously teamed up on “The Help,” but since then, the director has had success with films like “Get on Up,” starring future “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman, and “The Girl on the Train,” which starred Emily Blunt. He also has the thriller “Ma” coming out soon, from Blumhouse Productions, starring another ‘Help’ star Octavia Spencer.

And in addition to their impending collab on “Eve,” Chastain and Taylor will work together on another film, titled “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”
