Cinephiles will recognize Oscar Boyson‘s name as a producer on films by Noah Baumbach and the Safdie Brothers. But now it’s Boyson’s turn to be behind the camera for “Our Hero, Balthazar,” a scathing dark comedy that took Tribeca 2025 by storm last year.

Starring Jaeden Martell and Asa Butterfield, Boyson’s feature directorial debut follows a wealthy and always-online teenager from NYC who heads to Texas on an ill-conceived bid to impress his crush.

Eager to impress his activist crush, a wealthy New York teenager follows an online connection to Texas, where he’s convinced he can stop an act of extreme violence.
Along with Martell and Butterfield, “Our Hero, Balthazar” also stars Chris Bauer, Jennifer Ehle, Anna Baryshnikov, Noah Centineo, Becky Ann Baker, Avan Jogia, and Pippa Knowles.
Boyson directs the film and co-writes it with Ricky Camilleri. Boyson and Camilleri also lead producers with John Wroblewski, David Duque-Estrada, Miles Skinner, Alex Hughes, and Martell. Executive producers include Scott Aharoni, Sinan Eczasibasi, Metin Alihan Yalcindag, Riccardo Maddalosso, Eugene Kotlyarenko, Centineo, Enzo Marc, Blaine Kern III, and Peter Gold.
“Our Hero, Balthazar” had its world premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival, where it received rave reviews from critics.
Boyson’s film will get a gradual theatrical rollout this Spring. It hits NYC first at Regal Union Square on March 27, then Los Angeles on April 3 at Alamo Drafthouse Downtown LA, with additional cities to follow. Watch the new trailer for “Our Hero, Balthazar” below.
