Watch: Christoph Waltz Tries To Solve ‘The Zero Theorem’ In New Trailer For Terry Gilliam’s Film

Zero Theorem

” ‘Zero Theorem‘ was more a reaction to the connected world,” director Terry Gilliam told us at the Marrakech Film Festival in December. “We all exist as part of the connection, we are a neuron in this bigger thing, can we disconnect? Can solitude be more interesting? I don’t know if people know who they are unless they spend time alone…they only know reactions, tweets etc, not actual existences. So that’s what interested me in the script, and we just started working. The film is much different than the film we started with. I like this film!” But will we like it? The first official trailer is here to make the case.

Starring Christoph Waltz, David Thewlis, Melanie Thierry, Ben Whishaw, Tilda Swinton and Matt Damon, the effort is one of the 21 Best Films Of 2014 We’ve Already Seen, telling the story of Qohen, who is tasked with solving the Zero Theorem, an equation that proves that existence is meaningless. Of course, this sends the man down the futuristic rabbit hole as he fights bureaucracy and gets lost in a world that blends reality and fantasy — basically, it’s all right in Giliam’s wheelhouse, in a picture called “an admirably ambitious and thoughtful sci-fi mindbender.”

Still no exact word on a U.S. release date (or distributor) but this trailer is a start. Watch below.
