Ok, folks, are you ready for Hercule Poirot to get a little spooky? Well, if you are hoping to see Kenneth Branagh return with another Agatha Christie tale, this time with a potentially supernatural twist, you’re in luck.
According to THR, Kenneth Branagh and 20th Century Studios are once again teaming up for an Agatha Christie-inspired film, the third since 2017. And just like the last two features, “A Haunting in Venice” is getting an all-star cast. For the new film, Branagh, who is not only directing the film but also stars as Poirot, obviously, has brought in actors such as Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Michelle Yeoh, Jude Hill, Kelly Reilly, Emma Laird, Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Ali Khan, and Riccardo Scamarico. As mentioned, “A Haunting in Venice” is a bit spookier than the previous two films, “Death on the Nile” and “Murder on the Orient Express.”
Here’s the synopsis for the latest Poirot adventure:
“Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.”
“This is a fantastic development of the character Hercule Poirot, as well as the Agatha Christie franchise,” said Branagh. “Based on a complex, little-known tale of mystery set at Halloween in a pictorially ravishing city, it is an amazing opportunity for us, as filmmakers, and we are relishing the chance to deliver something truly spine-chilling for our loyal movie audiences.”
While a release date has yet to be announced, production is set to begin on October 31. Yes, Halloween. This means it would make sense for 20th Century Studios to plan for an October 2023 release, right? We’ll just have to wait and see.
