‘Lilo & Stitch’ Trailer: Disney’s Adorable Alien Returns In Live-Action Remake On May 23

Walt Disney Pictures has been behind a large swath of live-action remakes based on their extensive library of animated films. The next project heading to theaters in May is a remake of the beloved 2002 pic “Lilo & Stitch” and the studio just released a full trailer for the alien-centric adventure set in Hawaii.

If you’re not familiar with the original movie: Lilo is a young Hawaiian girl thrust into a sci-fi adventure after she adopts an adorable alien creature, Stitch, who happens to be on the run after escaping the grasp of other more dastardly aliens.

Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp known for his Oscar-nomined pic “Marcel The Shell With Shoes On“, the new iteration stars Maia Kealoha, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham, Chris Sanders, Courtney B. Vance, and Zach Galifianakis.

Disney‘s official synopsis for the live-action remake:

A live-action reimagining of Disney’s 2002 animated classic, “Lilo & Stitch” is the wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family

The remake, an obvious female-centric spin on “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial,” has a producing team featuring Jonathan Eirich and Dan Lin, with Tom Peitzman and Ryan Halprin.

Some other live-action projects on the way include “Snow White” by director Marc Webb (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) debuting on March 21 and Paul King (“Paddington,” “Wonka”) is behind a “Prince Charming” film (not exactly a one-to-one to the original animated incarnation) starring Chris Hemsworth (“Thor: Ragnarok”) in what is expected to be a new twist on the Cinderella love interest.

You can watch that new trailer below and “Lilo & Stitch” hits theaters on May 23.
