After a recent release of The Wu-Tang Clan single “Mandingo” (a nod to a slavery-era movie that helped inspire RZA‘s pal Quentin Tarantino‘s “Django Unchained“), a new documentary, “A Wu-Tang Experience: Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre,” focused on their 2021 Live At Red Rocks concert is coming next month and a new trailer has dropped from Breaking Glass Pictures promoting it.
Film composer and Wu-Tang member The RZA (“Kill Bill”) co-directs with Gerald Barclay as the doc comes out May 6 on digital platforms. The lineup (minus the late ODB) features RZA, Method Man, Cappadonna, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, Raekwon, and YDB alongside the 60-piece Colorado Symphony entertaining a massive crowd of 10,000 fans.
A brief synopsis for the epic rap concert documentary:
On August 13, 2021, the Wu-Tang Clan, backed by the 60-piece Colorado Symphony Orchestra, performed at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheater. Roughly 10,000 fans witnessed one of the most extraordinary concerts in Hip-Hop music history. Welcome to A Wu-Tang Experience.
The Wu-Tang Clan is easily the biggest standout rap super group of the 1990s (still massively popular and influential) as the Staten Island collective not only helped boost West Coast/New York hip-hop across the globe they were able to infuse their unique lyrical gymnastics with a flood of film references to classic Hong Kong and Japanese martial arts films that had a huge impact on inner city kids like themselves leading to their name itself (Wu-Tang being a nod to a style of kung fu). They were also early adopters of interactive media, adding CD-ROM (yes, that used to be a thing before the internet really took off) content with their CD albums.
You can watch that fantastic new trailer for “A Wu-Tang Experience” below as the Wu-Tang Clan entertains a massive group of concertgoers.
