Acclaimed musician Kendrick Lamar (“Power”), after making huge waves at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, is teaming up with Paramount Pictures and the creators of “South Park” for a new untitled comedy.
Matt Stone and Trey Parker have been overseeing the massive “South Park” franchise, which includes both the longstanding subversive animated series at Comedy Central since the late 1990s and film spinoffs. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the exciting news on the feature film project and that it has already been slated for release on March 20, 2026 (pushed from a summer date of July 4, 2025).
Filming took place last year as Lamar is kicking off a co-headling tour with SZA while the comedic duo finish up the film from filmmaker Dave Free (“Not Like Us”) and penned by veteran “South Park” writer Vernon Chatman.
The news comes ahead of Paramount’s big presentation this week at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
It’s not a hugely odd pairing as “South Park” has been a landmark mature animated series as the show has spent decades satirizing celebrities and those from within the music industry. Some of the more famous episodes had send-ups on the likes of Kanye West, Mel Gibson, Disney, and even had Stan’s dad Randy revealed as the real version of Lorde.
Stone and Parker aren’t strangers to filmmaking as their live-action comedies included the porn industry parody “Orgazmo” and created a fake hybrid sport for their pic “Baseketball.” They also went on to conquer Broadway with their super successful Mormon Church send-up musical “The Book of Mormon.”
Paramount isn’t new to aburdist comedies as with the help of MTV has been the home of the “Jackass” franchise for decades. We can’t wait to hear more details on the project and if Kendrick Lamar is providing music for the film.
