Got a Tip?

‘El Camino’: Aaron Paul Predicted Jesse Pinkman’s Post-‘Breaking Bad’ Fate Years Ago

The internet is a wonderful place. Well, once you get past all the rampant racism and terribly dark, disgusting, and illegal segments. Overall, it’s a place where people are able to exchange information from all corners of the globe. And it’s also a platform for actors to answer fan questions about a possible story that would end up playing out years later on Netflix. At least, that was the case with Aaron Paul and a simple AMA on Reddit that seemingly gave his predictions about ‘El Camino’ three years ago.

**Spoilers for those who haven’t seen the “Breaking Bad” sequel film. Go watch it on Netflix!**

As pointed out by Netflix on social media, Paul was asked about Jesse Pinkman’s fate at the end of the “Breaking Bad” finale, while the actor was taking part in an Ask Me Anything discussion on Reddit a few years ago. And honestly, it’s pretty interesting considering the predictions he gave at the time, which was largely written off as wishful thinking, ended up being almost exactly what happened in the recent “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.”

If you’ve seen the film, and we’re going to assume you have considering you blew past the spoiler warning, then you know that ‘El Camino’ ends with Jesse Pinkman finally making it out of Albuquerque, paying off the vacuum sales guy, and making his way to Alaska, with a new identity and life in hand. It’s not nearly as explosive an ending as what we saw with “Breaking Bad,” but it served as a quality epilogue and answered the one major dangling question from the series.

And if you read Reddit a few years back, Aaron Paul spoiled the whole damn thing.

“God, I think there’s 2 stories,” he wrote. “I’d like to think Jesse got away. I like to think he kept driving. But we all know he has no money, he gave it all away, and we also know his fingerprints are all over everything where Walt was found dead. They’re gonna be searching high and low for Jesse, so I don’t know.”

He continued, “I like to think he was building something in Alaska…but he could be locked away in a prison somewhere. But we don’t like to think about that version of the show. So, I think he’s living happy on a lake somewhere in Alaska, fishing a lot, making things out of wood, probably kicked the habit of meth.”

Well damn, good for you Aaron Paul! You successfully predicted the ending of ‘El Camino’ three full years before the film would even see the light of day. Of course, this does bring up a chicken-or-the-egg discussion. Did Aaron Paul’s Alaska theory come as a result of talks between him and Vince Gilligan and he was dropping hints? Or maybe he had this Alaska theory and brought it up to Gilligan, who crafted the ending? Perhaps, this is all one big coincidence?

Either way, it’s pretty interesting that this theory has existed online, formulated by the star of the series and eventual sequel, and no one thought that it would actually form the rough outline for the film. Of course, critics of the film might say that Paul’s description of the events is about as deep as the plot and script of ‘El Camino’ goes anyway, so if you read Reddit three years ago, then don’t even bother watching the film.

For the rest of the fans out there, “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie” is streaming now on Netflix.
