If you opened social media over the last 72 hours, it’s likely that you were inundated with nothing but Disney news. Whether it’s “Star Wars,” Marvel, or that creepy af trailer for “Lady and the Tramp,” the Mouse House dominated the conversation this weekend. But that wasn’t all that happened. Netflix also blew people’s minds when they surprisingly released a trailer for the upcoming “Breaking Bad” sequel film, “El Camino.”
Why was the trailer for “El Camino” such a surprise? Well, mainly because no matter how many rumors that have been floating around, we hadn’t had confirmation the film even existed. Now, we know it not only exists but is set to be released on Netflix in less than two months.
And in a new interview with the New York Times, ‘El Camino’ star Aaron Paul opens up about how it all came together and why he would dare return to continue the story that ended so beautifully years ago.

“It’s a chapter of ‘Breaking Bad’ that I didn’t realize that I wanted,” Paul said. “And now that I have it, I’m so happy that it’s there.”
Details about the film are sparse, but we know that ‘El Camino’ takes place immediately after “Breaking Bad” ended, with Jesse Pinkman on the run after escaping the neo-Nazi holding cell that he was being kept in and forced to cook meth. What happens next is anyone’s guess. But Paul says that the genesis of the film occurred two years ago, when he was having a conversation with “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan.
“At the very end of the conversation,” Paul said, “he mentioned that he had an idea of where to take it from here, and he wanted to hear my thoughts on it. I quickly told Vince that I would follow him into a fire.”
Paul also talked a bit about the actual story of the film and his reaction to reading the script. As you might expect, the actor was delighted.
“I couldn’t speak for a good 30, 60 seconds,” he said. “I was just lost in my thoughts. As the guy who played the guy, I was so happy that Vince wanted to take me on this journey.”
Rumors of the “Breaking Bad” sequel film have been floating around for months. Paul, along with his co-star Bryan Cranston, quickly became the subject of intense questioning, with people dying to know if there was actually a film coming. And according to the actor, by the time people were asking about the film, the sequel was already in the can.
So, how did he film one of the most anticipated films of the year in secret, without anyone knowing? Well, he didn’t necessarily lie, but he did leave one some incredibly pertinent information.
“I just said I was doing this small little indie out in New Mexico and that was it. No one second-guessed it,” Paul revealed.
Netflix shocked everyone and gave audiences a teaser and release date for “El Camino,” which will launch globally on October 11.
