Bill Skarsgård Says Rumors He & His Brother Auditioned For Lex Luthor Role Are False

Months ago, before filming had started on “Superman,” there was a rumor floating around that the role of Lex Luthor was between brothers Bill and Alex Skarsgård. Both are incredible actors and could bring something to the role. However, according to one of the brothers, that was never the case.

Speaking on a recent episode of the “Happy. Sad. Confused.” podcast, Bill Skarsgård was there to promote his role in Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu.” However, during part of the interview, he was asked if the rumors were true about whether or not he auditioned for the role of Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s “Superman.” And specifically, if he was competing against his brother for the gig.

“No, no. I was at home and there were rumors that me and Alex were competing. I was like, ‘No one’s called me!’ [Laughs],” said Skarsgård. “Never read for it. Never talked to James.”

You can’t blame fans for wanting the Bill Skarsgård rumors to be true. The actor is one of the best working today, especially when he is given a chance to disappear into a character. We’ve seen him do it in both “It” films, as well as the aforementioned “Nosferatu.” The latter of which might be his biggest departure yet. Of course, Hoult isn’t a terrible choice, either. He’s an accomplished, beloved actor.

So far, we have seen Bill Skarsgård take on a couple of comic book films. He was the voice of the villain in Marvel Studios’ “Eternals.” He also, just this year, appeared in the lead role in the remake of “The Crow.” It’s unclear if we might see him tackle another comic book property in the future.
