Well before his final “Aquaman” film was released, and before James Gunn took over DC Studios, Jason Momoa has been talking about his desire to play Lobo in a DC film. Well, it appears his prayers have been answered.

In a new Instagram post (which was confirmed by Deadline), Jason Momoa has been signed to play Lobo in the upcoming “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” film, which is expected to begin production in 2025. In his post on social media, Momoa screenshot an interview where he talked about how he would instantly say yes to the role of Lobo if they called him and offered it. His caption for the picture is simply, “They called.”

It’s unclear what role Lobo might have in the ‘Supergirl’ film. The project is said to be inspired by the comic book series, also titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” But again, we don’t know too much about the film. What we do know is that the title role is going to be played by Milly Alcock, with Matthias Schoenaerts and Eve Ridley also signed on.
Lobo is far from a household name. The character is often seen as a product of an era of comic books that emphasized “cool” over character. Typically, we see Lobo with chains all over him and riding a cosmic motorcycle. He’s a pretty goofy character when you stop and think about it, but he’s always shown to be super macho and cool. When you look at a picture of the character, it’s clear that Momoa definitely looks the part.
As mentioned, Momoa has been asking for the role of Lobo for years now, well before he was done playing Aquaman in two films. At first, it was seen as a non-starter since he was Aquaman. But in Gunn’s new DCU, he can have a fresh start. We’ll just have to see whether or not Momoa’s Lobo was worth the wait.
