Los Angeles-based musician Micael Milosh, aka Rhye, has announced his new album, titled Home, which is set to drop early next year. Alongside the album announcement, Rhye has released the lead single “Black Rain” and an accompanying music video that stars actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson whom many will recognize from “Kick-Ass,” “Nocturnal Animals,” “The Avengers,” and Gareth Edwards’s 2014 “Godzilla.”
The “Black Rain” music video is directed by British filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson (known for “Nowhere Boy,” “Fifty Shades of Grey,” The Weeknd’s “Earned It”) who is also married to Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Rhye’s “Black Rain” composition utilizes a variety of non-traditional arrangements —19th century inspired strings, a Ludwig drumkit— to a stunningly harmonious effect, and something he describes as ’80s disco, like the way Quincy Jones interpreted it.

The video itself is super simple and minimalist, captured with a notably low-angle, immobile camera set-up, a shirtless Aaron Taylor-Johnson performs an interpretive dance in a dimly lit setting. The combination of Sam’s visualizations—faster frame rates to accentuate movement—Aaron’s random, fluid movements, and Rhye’s inspired composition results in something beautiful and hypnotizing.

In a statement, Milosh explains how his music is deeply connected to his childhood and his learnings from his father.
“My dad, a really sweet, gentle, and inclusive guy, was into this idea of feeling something through playing just one note without a melody, that exchange of energy. We would talk about how music doesn’t mean anything if you can’t make the listener feel it… I’m always trying always to accomplish musical goals that are connected to the way I listened to and interact with music as a child.”
