Though we’ve known an ‘Agatha’ series was coming for a long time now, Marvel Studios was tricking fans by constantly changing the title of the show until it was recently revealed that it’ll actually be called “Agatha All Along.” But even still, we don’t know much about the show. Well, until now.
Thanks to a new profile in Empire, we have our first real description of what “Agatha All Along” will be like. The series, which is created by Jac Schaeffer (who was the head writer of “WandaVision”), stars Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, Aubrey Plaza, and Patti LuPone. “Agatha All Along” apparently tells the story of Agatha who is convinced by a teen to go on the Witches’ Road in an attempt to reclaim her mystical powers. And according to Locke, who plays a character only referred to as Teen in the scripts (supposedly), it’s that Witches’ Road that led Kevin Feige to claim the show is basically “The Goonies.”
“Jac [Schaeffer] sent Kevin Feige a picture of the Witches’ Road set and he replied, ‘Oh my God, we’re making The Goonies’,” Locke said. “That’s what I’d been saying — that we were making this adventure series.”
According to Kathryn Hahn, who stars as Agatha, the show is an opportunity to explore a new direction for her villainous character.
“We’ve seen her with all her bravado and crazy confidence,” said Hahn. “So much of Agatha is performance. It was exciting to get to the kernel under the sass and sarcasm and taking pleasure in other people’s pain. There’s something broken under that, big-time.”
We’ll finally get our chance to watch “Agatha All Along” when it debuts on Disney+ on September 18. You can see some new images (courtesy of Empire) below:
