We are quite excited about Alex Ross Perry‘s latest project, “Her Smell.” The young filmmaker announced on Instagram that production had finished. “Her Smell” stars Perry frequent collaborator Elisabeth Moss, along with Cara Delevingne, Dan Stevens, Eric Stoltz, Virginia Madsen, Amber Heard, and Ashley Benson in the film about an aging punk singer. Through the Instagram announcement, we found a new star in Perry’s film — Sleigh Bells singer Alexis Krauss.
Krauss and Perry have a working history together. Perry collaborated with the band to direct the music video for their song, “I Can Only Stare,” (which you can watch below). As seen in the video, Krauss can adapt around a camera. It feels like a natural fit for the singer to be a part of Perry’s project. Oddly enough, this won’t be Krauss’ first time in a feature film. The singer appeared in the oft-forgotten Joseph Gordon-Levitt action film “Premium Rush,” alongside her Sleigh Bells partner Derek Miller.
According to recent reports, “Her Smell” features Moss playing an aging punk rock singer, who is attempting to find the spark that brought her fame, while also dealing with the drama surrounding her family, friends, and battling substance abuse. So it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Krauss appears as another singer or band member.
In addition to the Sleigh Bells video, Perry also helmed a clip for duo Aly & Aj‘s “Take Me.” It shares the same look and feel with “I Can Only Stare,” just with some vampires. It’s no surprise that Perry’s distinct style is all over these videos, as cinematographer Sean Price Williams works on most of Perry’s projects and will return for “Her Smell.”
There’s every good reason to think Perry brought in Krauss as a friend, collaborator, and someone who understands the narrative of “Her Smell.” Now we’ll be watching this video on repeat until the film’s release.
