Got a Tip?

‘All We Imagine As Light’ & ‘Anora’ Top Sight & Sound’s Best Films Of 2024

Year-end lists are often pretty interesting. What films clicked with what people? What are some of the films that everyone agrees are great but aren’t being talked about when it comes to awards? And in the case of Sight & Sound’s Best of 2024 list, what films finished below Francis Ford Coppola’sMegalopolis?” (You’d be surprised.)

That’s right, it’s the end of the year, so we’re taking a look at some of the most interesting Best of 2024 lists out there. For years, Sight & Sound has been one of the best film outlets and one of the most interesting year-end list makers. So, needless to say, we gotta check out what the outlet claims are the best films of the year.

Topping the list this year is “All We Imagine As Light,” which is being thrown around quite a bit as one of the biggest awards season favorites of the year. Many are predicting it could win the Best International Film Oscar. Up near the top, at #2, is Sean Baker’s awards season powerhouse, “Anora.”

As for some of the surprises, you have “Love Lies Bleeding” and “The Substance” at numbers 7 and 8, respectively. That puts them above other films such as “Nickel Boys,” “I Saw the TV Glow,” and “Challengers.”

You may be wondering why we’re not talking about “Emilia Perez” and “The Brutalist.” Those films barely cracked the Top 20, at #19 and #20, respectively. Interestingly, that puts them both below “Megalopolis,” which is at #17. Shocking, to say the least.
