Amazon Developing ‘Sausage Party’ TV Series As Seth Rogen Declares “It’s Exactly What The World Needs Right Now”

Surprisingly, Prime Video has become a hub for mature genre work, especially when it comes to animation. Just recently, you have projects such as “The Boys: Diabolical” and “Invincible” both becoming major hits for the streamer and pulling no punches in terms of content. Well, two of the producers of those previous series, Seth Rogen and Adam Goldberg, are going to try their hand again at creating adult animation on the streaming service with a new series, “Sausage Party: Foodtopia.”

According to Deadline, Prime Video has teamed up with Rogen and Goldberg to bring the “Sausage Party” crew back for a new animated series. “Sausage Party” is a 2016 film about anthropomorphic food items living in a grocery store that are trying to fend off an evil douche. It’s ridiculously silly and very funny. So, it appears everyone is ready to see if they can turn that film into a successful eight-episode series, titled ‘Foodtopia.’ Two of the original writers, Ariel Shaffir and Kyle Hunter, are on board to showrun the new series.

“Film used to be the superior art form to television, and we humbly reached the pinnacle of what can be achieved with film in our remarkable opus, ‘Sausage Party,’” said Rogen and Goldberg. “But now that film is completely dead and TV is the forever-king of entertainment, we’ve decided to continue the epic adventures of our culinary crew in the soon-to-be-legendary televised masterpiece ‘Sausage Party: Foodtopia.’ It’s got all the heart, double the puns, and triple the food-on-food sex. In other words, it’s exactly what the world needs right now.”

While the “food-on-food sex” was one of the more shocking aspects of “Sausage Party,” when it was originally released, the film surprised many with its incredible voice cast. Well, thankfully, Rogen and Goldberg were able to nab a lot of those actors again for the new film, including Rogen himself, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, and Edward Norton. Joining the cast for the new series are Will Forte, Sam Richardson, Natasha Rothwell, and Yassir Lester.

An exact release date has yet to be confirmed, but “Sausage Party: Foodtopia” is expected to arrive on Prime Video sometime in 2024.
