Spanish filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo burst onto the festival and genre scene with his fantastic time-travelling thriller “Timecrimes” back in 2007, following that up with projects like Anne Hathaway-led boozy kaiju dramedy “Colossal,” and is now making a big return to the world of science fiction with his latest effort, “Daniela Forever.”
The elevator pitch for “Daniela Forever,” starring Henry Golding and Beatrice Grannò, sees a distraught boyfriend using bleeding-edge technology developed for a groundbreaking sleep therapy (think something similar to “Inception” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind“) that allows him to reunite with his lost love, Daniela. However, Nicolás is having trouble separating this fantastical dreamscape from reality, which is impacting his ability to let go.
As highlighted in the trailer, that aforementioned dreamscape and reality are differentiated to audiences by two drastically different camera formats and cinematography, the former being a lot more cinematic and colorful. Quite the inventive way for a filmmaker to convey this.
Other actors who star in “Daniela Forever” include Aura Garrido, Rubén Ochandiano, and Nathalie Poza.
An official logline of the romantic sci-fi flick, courtesy of Well Go USA Entertainment:
Grieving the loss of his girlfriend Daniela, Nicolás is consumed by sorrow. He sees a glimmer of hope when he’s offered a chance to participate in a groundbreaking sleep therapy that simulates reality. But as dream and memory blur, he must confront what healing really means—and whether he’s ready to let go. From visionary filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo (“Colossal”), “Daniela Forever” is a sci-fi journey through love, loss, and illusion.
You can check out that new trailer for “Daniela Forever” as the flick heads to theaters on July 11.
