Transitioning from your teens to adulthood can be tricky, and for most, it is a formative time in life where you attempt to figure out what kind of future you want, explore your sexuality, experience the realities of the world, and learn that plans are not always going to happen according to plan. This makes that period perfect dramatic fodder for filmmakers and is the focus of the new Italian/British movie “Diciannove” (Italian for nineteen) from first-time writer/director Giovanni Tortorici.
We’ve been sent a trailer for “Diciannove,” to share, which is heading to U.S. theaters on July 25, thanks to the folks over at Oscilloscope Laboratories.
Produced by Luca Guadagnino (“Challengers,” “Queer”) the new coming-of-age movie that sees our lead character Leonardo moving out of Palermo and experiencing life on his own as a young adult while navigating a post-secondary education in London. It stars Manfredi Marini, Vittoria Planeta, Zackari Delmas, Dana Giuliano, and Luca Lazzareschi.
An official synopsis for “Diciannove”, courtesy of Oscilloscope:
The highs and lows of a restless youth collide headlong into the concrete realities of adulthood when Leonardo, a teenager from Palermo, leaves home for the first time. His studies land him in Siena, by way of London, where he clashes with his instructor, the curriculum, and most chaotically, with himself.
Guadagnino leads a producing team that also consists of Paula Alvarez Vaccaro, Aaron Brookner, Agustina Costa Varsi, Francesco Melzi D’eril, Marco Morabito, and Moreno Zani. The debut movie from Tortorici screened at the Venice Film Festival and Toronto Film Festival back in 2024 to mostly positive reviews.
