There’s been a lot of talk lately about Amazon’s upcoming TV series slate. The streaming service is rapidly attempting to catch up with Netflix with their own mix of huge event series and prestige offerings. And in a new interview with the Amazon Studios box Jennifer Salke, we are beginning to learn a little more about two of their most high-profile series.

In an interview with Deadline, Salke is finally opening up about the topic of much fan speculation – “Lord of the Rings.” The reportedly $1 billion series that is moving forward at Amazon has been all over headlines lately with the question of whether filmmaker Peter Jackson will be involved. As you probably already know, Jackson is responsible for the critically-acclaimed blockbusters based on the classic novels.

Salke was asked to confirm whether Jackson was involved. Her response doesn’t really clear things up as much as you might like:
“The Peter Jackson conversations, right now we’re right in the middle of them. It’s like, how much do you want to be involved, how little? I know there’s been some discussion, and he’s even said some things, but as far as I’m aware, the latest is that we’re just in a conversation with him about how much or how little he would be involved.”

That being said, she was able to clear up a couple other rumors. First, she wanted everyone to know that there are no plans, at the moment at least, for multiple ‘Rings’ series. Instead, they’re focusing on “one big series.” And in response to the concern that Amazon is just retelling the story seen in the already-expansive films, Salke replied, “I think you can know that we’re not remaking the movies, but we’re also not starting from scratch. So, it’ll be characters you love.”
So, you mean Tom Bombadil?
