Got a Tip?

Amazon Developing New Series From Producer Sandra Bullock Inspired By The Actress’ College Years

Amazon is currently developing a new TV series about the life of a young woman in the South that overcomes adversity as she goes on a search to find herself. Sounds like a fairly decent, if not overused, premise, right? Well, there’s an added wrinkle to this new Amazon project, as it apparently is loosely based on the college years of none other than Sandra Bullock.

According to Variety, Amazon has picked up a series from producers Bullock, Akiva Goldsman, and John Legend that will loosely adapt the life of the Oscar-winning actress into a drama. As mentioned, the series is set in the American South in the 1980s and will focus on a young woman, approximately college-aged, that defies expectations while going on a search for love, community, and an identity of her own.

Writer K.C. Perry, best known for work on “The Originals” and the upcoming pilot for “Constance,” has joined as writer and showrunner for the still-untitled series. The creation of the new series reportedly stems from a conversation between Bullock and Goldsman, about the actress’ formative years. From there, Goldsman approached writer Marja Lewis-Ryan to help develop the series. Unfortunately, Lewis-Ryan is knee-deep in the development of the forthcoming revival of “The L Word,” and couldn’t showrun this new series, handing the reins over to Perry.

John Legend and his production company were brought on board during the development of the series. This isn’t’ the first time that Legend has produced a series with Goldsman, as both were responsible for the WGN series “Underground.” Bullock also has previous TV experience as a producer, having worked on the George Lopez ABC sitcom that aired for six seasons.

No word on when we might expect to see this untitled dramedy, but with this level of talent involved, it’s likely that Amazon will want this going as soon as possible.
