James Wan Says China Loves Watching Amber Heard Eat Odd Things As ‘Aquaman’ Box Office Passes ‘Wonder Woman’

**Slight spoilers ahead for ‘Aquaman.’ But you’ve probably already seen it anyway**

There’s a moment in “Aquaman” that will either make you stand up and throw your popcorn at the movie theater, shouting “COME ON!” or will have you laughing and firmly along for the ride. But according to a new interview with director James Wan, it’s that scene that the folks in China love more than anything else.

The scene in question features Amber Heard, as Princess Mera, touring an Italian market where she becomes enamored with the surface world. Audiences then see her take a rose and proceed to eat it. Jason “My Man!” Momoa, attempting to convince people that he and Heard have a semblance of chemistry, does the same, to show solidarity and charm.

Capping off the ridiculous nature of the scene is that a song by Roy Orbison plays in the background, showing that director James Wan continues to go with the obvious, if not corny, choices for music (along with the previously used Pitbull’s version of “Africa,” as the two characters enter…Africa).

Speaking to THR, Wan said, about which scene is the most popular in China, “I’m thinking of all the crazy set pieces and all the cool visuals and all that. I wasn’t even remotely close. They said, ‘It’s the scene where Amber [Heard] eats the flower.’”

As mentioned above, YMMV with how you feel about the scene (there are definitely differing opinions on this staff), but it is really interesting to know that, for some odd reason, Chinese folks enjoy watching Amber Heard eat weird stuff. Whatever the reason, it’s working, as the worldwide box office totals for “Aquaman” continue to impress.

According to the most recent estimates, the Warner Bros. film has earned an astounding $822 million worldwide, which officially puts it past “Wonder Woman” ($821.8 million), as the second-best DCEU film across the globe. “Aquaman” now sits a mere $52 million from eclipsing “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” as the top WB/DC grosser as part of this most recent DCEU franchise. Not only is that expected to happen in the coming week, but many are predicting that after everything is all said and done, “Aquaman” can sit as the first DCEU film to cross the $1 billion threshold.

Either way, a sequel is guaranteed and is also guaranteed to include at least one scene of Amber Heard consuming something strange.
