'Arctic" Trailer: Mads Mikkelson Clashes With Frigid Temperatures & A Polar Bear In New Thriller

We’ve seen stories about survival, but “Arctic” looks to be a solid entry into the film sub-genre.

In the first trailer for the film, we’re introduced to our main character, but we’re not given any backstory or context. All we know is that this man is stuck in the freezing cold of the titular location, with barely any food, a plane he uses for shelter, and a woman, who appears to be on the brink of death.

Written by Joe Penna and Ryan Morrison, “Arctic” stars Mads Mikkelsen, a man stranded in the Arctic after an airplane crash. He must decide whether to remain in the relative safety of his makeshift camp or to embark on a deadly trek through the unknown in hopes of making it out alive.

This is the first time we will see Mikkelsen on the big screen since 2016’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” however, it doesn’t seem like he was relaxing much since then. This is just the beginning of a string of movies for Mikkelsen, including the anticipated “Chaos Walking” starring Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland.

Unlike the projects he has coming up, and unlike other survival films, “Arctic” appears to be more of a one-man survival story (though he is accompanied by another survivor, at least for the time being), which is different than films that have tackled this subject before, such as “Alive” or “Everest.

Bleecker Street will release “Arctic” in select theaters February 1.

Here’s the official synopsis:

A man stranded in the Arctic after an airplane crash must decide whether to remain in the relative safety of his makeshift camp or to embark on a deadly trek through the unknown in hopes of making it out alive.
