Ana de Armas is a beautiful, talented actress, there’s no question about that. But how will the Cuban-born actress embody the epitome of Hollywood sexuality, Marilyn Monroe? That’s the question that we now face, as the actress is in talks (via Collider) to portray the iconic Monroe in the upcoming film “Blonde.”
Based on the Joyce Carol Oates novel of the same name, “Blonde” tells the story of Monroe, but through a fictional lens. The novel has gone through various adaptations before landing on its current one with filmmaker Andrew Dominik and, now, actress Ana de Armas. Previous versions of the film featured Jessica Chastain and Naomi Watts in the lead role.
Ana de Armas broke into Hollywood, after a successful Spanish-language acting career, with a role in the Eli Roth film, “Knock Knock.” From there, she’s starred in films “War Dogs,” and most famously, “Blade Runner 2049,” where she played opposite Ryan Gosling. She’s soon to be seen in the Rian Johnson mystery film “Knives Out.”

Andrew Dominik is a director with eclectic filmography. His first film, “Chopper,” launched him into the filmmaking scene thanks to a star-making performance from Eric Bana as the titular criminal. From there, he directed “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” which is a great film, but is often regarded as a bit of a challenge. Of course, his next work, “Killing Them Softly,” was supposed to be the project that put him in the A-list of directors, but while it got good reviews, the film never really caught on. Dominik’s “Blonde” very well could be the project that puts his name in the conversation again as one of the best filmmakers working.
“Blonde” is being distributed by Netflix and doesn’t currently have a release date.
