Got a Tip?

Anne Hathaway Confirms Herself For ‘Robopocalypse,’ But Co-Star Chris Hemsworth Won’t Be An ‘American Assassin’

nullIt's been quite a year for Anne Hathaway, and for any actress, toplining (and some would argue stealing the show) Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" would have been more than enough. But the actress just hosted "Saturday Night Live" over the weekend (featuring that Rihanna performance against a desktop screensaver from seven years ago) and is getting into the Oscar fray with "Les Misérables." And next year? If all goes according to plan, she'll be working with a guy you may have heard of named Steven Spielberg.

A couple of months ago Hathaway was reported to be in early talks for "Robopocalypse," and now she has confirmed herself for the gig with the usual caveats. "If 'Robopocalypse' happens I will be in it and I believe it’s quite real, though you never want to hang your hat on anything," she told Empire, though she wouldn't spill any details on her character. She'll be joining Chris Hemsworth and possibly Ben Whishaw in Drew Goddard's adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson's book that is set in the near future where robots are a part of everyday human life…until a sentient artificial intelligence underneath the ice in Alaska programs them to kill.

Working with Spielberg is a dream for any actor, and indeed, Hemsworth is making sure his schedule will have plenty of room. Though he was said to be at the center of a deal last month worth $10 million to see him lead "American Assassin," Deadline reports that hasn't come through. Between "Thor 2" and "Robopocalypse," dude won't have time to play Mitch Rapp, a maverick, unorthodox CIA terrorist hunter. Bruce Willis was also linked, but no word on if he's still involved. Anyway, CBS Films will have to start the search for another hunky new lead.
