Got a Tip?

Anne Hathaway May Face The ‘Robopocalypse’ With Chris Hemsworth

Before we get to the casting news, it appears that departing 20th Century Fox chairman Tom Rothman has landed on his feet quite nicely. He has been announced as a producer on Steven Spielberg‘s brewing “Robopocalypse,” which will be jointly produced by DreamWorks and, you guessed it, 20th Century Fox. It will be his first collaboration with Spielberg, but given his long history with big budget pictures, it’s a relationship that should develop quite nicely.

But now let’s get to the good stuff. While Chris Hemsworth is being sought, and has entered negotiations for the movie, Anne Hathway is now in early talks for the female lead. So, to put it another way, Thor and Catwoman might be leading Spielberg’s next movie. Not bad. Based on the book by Daniel H. Wilson and adapted by Drew Goddard, the thriller is set in the near future where robots are a part of everyday human life…until a sentient artificial intelligence underneath the ice in Alaska programs them to kill. No exact details on the characters, but as far as pairings go, it’s hard to complain about that. Hemsworth has already proven his brawny leading man status, while Hathaway silenced haters with her sexy, snarky take on Catwoman in “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Production will get underway next year, with Spielberg contemplating an IMAX shoot for the picture, with an April 25, 2014 release for the movie lined up. [THR]
