‘Another Round’ Dominates 2020 European Film Awards

In a tight Oscar race in the International Film category, Thomas Vinterberg‘s celebrated “Another Round” is increasingly looking like an easy bet for a nomination. The Venice Film Festival drama swept the major honors at the 2020 European Film Awards including European Film, Director (Vinterberg), Actor (Mads Mikkelsen) and Screenplay. The film, distributed by Samuel Goldwyn in the United States, was originally set to debut at the canceled 2020 Cannes Film Festival.

This was Mikkelsen’s first win on his fourth nomination. He previously was awarded the equivalent of a lifetime achievement honor with an Outstanding European Achievement in World Cinema in 2011.

Notably, “Collective,” which is both a potential Best Documentary nominee at the upcoming Academy Awards and Romania’s International Film submission, won European Documentary.
