Got a Tip?

Another Trailer for “Priest” is One You’ve Already Seen

Another trailer for the sci-fi/action/thriller/another-vampire-movie-in-3D flick “Priest” has hit the web, and you don’t even have to view it yourself to have already seen it. Although this trailer doesn’t look as unfortunate as Paul Bettany’s other sci-fi thriller “Legion,” the trailer for “Priest” hands you the same conventions as any other action film.

It’s a CGI lover’s wet dream that follows a priest (Bettany) who must rescue his niece after she’s kidnapped by vampires. He is joined by the niece’s boyfriend (Cam Gigandet) and a priestess (Maggie Q) for the vampire-killing fun. And speaking of vampires, “True Blood” star Stephen Moyer makes an appearance in yet another vampire storyline. Expect cliche genre phrases to the tune of “The war is not over. Not for me.” and a choir jumping into the trailer over a montage of what you may believe to be “intense” scenes to really show you how serious things are, lastly, cue Alan Dale: “It’s the only world we have left.” That always seems to be the case. And someone always has to say it.

The vampires are eerily (no, not in the scary way, but the pathetic way) similar to those in Bettany’s “Legion” — they crawl on all fours, screech at the top of their lungs and travel in enormous packs. They’re also totally CGI and, if “I Am Legend” taught us anything besides how not to make an action flick about the apocalypse, it’s that CGI monsters are not scary. There’s an interesting contrast between the futuristic time period and the setting of the desert, but hopefully it won’t be as laughable as Smith’s other ingenious flick “Wild Wild West.” If you are interested in learning more about the film’s unoriginal details, take a look at the trailer below. If you’re still interested, see the movie (in 3D, of course) when it hits theaters May 13, 2011.
