Anthony Hopkins Takes Role In Zack Snyder's 'Rebel Moon'

Even though cameras have been rolling for months on Zack Snyder’s next ambitious film, “Rebel Moon” is still adding names. The Netflix project originates from an old rejected “Star Wars” pitch the filmmaker made in the early days of Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm that was loosely inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s iconic samurai film “Seven Samurai.”

Deadline reports that Welsh actor Anthony Hopkins (“Silence of The Lambs”) has nabbed a part in the big sci-fi movie at Netflix and will be voicing a robot named Jimmy.

He joins a growing cast that consists of Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera, Ed Skrein, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Rhian Rees, Jena Malone, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, Sky Yang, and Staz Nair.

Here is a rundown of what the new film will be about:

The sci-fi adventure pic is set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, then dispatching a young woman (Boutella) with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand. Hopkins will voice Jimmy, an impossibly sentient JC1435 mechanized battle robot and one-time defender of the slain King.

Both Snyder and Netflix confirmed the major casting news, the former revealing what his battle robot character Jimmy will look like in “Rebel Moon.” Hopkins is no stranger to genre roles playing Marvel’s Odin in multiple “Thor” movies and even appearing in “Transformers: The Last Knight.”
