So are we all sure that "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" wasn't a spoof by now? Back when Sacha Gervasi's documentary about the Canadian heavy metal band hit in 2008 it was kind of hard to believe that this wasn't some kind of weird "This is Spinal Tap" sequel. Their drummer's name was Robb Reiner for goodness sake. This had to be some kind of insane meta joke, right?
Well, no, as it turns out. This was 100% real. Anvil were a real band with a fascinating history, but living a tragic reality. Robb Reiner and his band-mate Steve "Lipps" Kudrow made for brilliant protagonists, and if you haven't seen the film then we really do urge you to track it down and check it out. The doc gained the band some notoriety again and they are now riding on a second wave of success.
Now that they have their careers back on track, Anvil are keen to turn their attention to some other important issues. First up — world peace. Seriously, just when we'd finally accepted that this was all reality, they go and throw this at us. A sequel to the documentary is in the works and will go by the name of "Anvil 2: The Quest For World Peace." As soon as we accept that this is really a thing, we'll be totally psyched to see it.
Anvil announced the plans for the film on their Facebook page:
Robb: “Me and Lips are gonna try to rally the world and throw a peace concert in Israel, and they’re gonna film it.”
Lips: “The selfish endeavor of making it for ourselves is pretty much done. We’re living the dream. Now it’s like, what can we do to change the world? We changed our world, but what can we do to change the world to make it a better place? There’s a way to use your celebrity for really good things.”
That's right, a peace concert in Israel. You couldn't script a Spinal Tap sequel that has a better hook than that.
