After a previous tease from actor Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”) on Instagram that he was cooking something up with filmmaker Spike Jonze (“Her,” “Where The Wild Things Are”) that project has been revealed as a short film for Apple called “Someday” and you can already watch it.
Pascal plays a character dealing with heartbreak leading to him use music and dance to help deal with the breakup. Settings contrast with each other as the breakup intro is frosty, snowy, and cold only for Pascal’s character to be transported to a much warmer dreamscape with extremely coordinated colors as he starts enjoying himself leading to a full-scale dance sequence.
The ad itself is for AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation and a shorter version was spotted during the MLB World Tour Tokyo Series 2025 game early this morning.
Jonze, of course, is well-known for his inventive music videos and for being able to express a lot of emotion and striking visuals with a limited runtime. Here, the short itself clocks in at five-and-a-half minutes giving you much more than what you’d expect from an Apple ad.
As pointed out by The Drum, choreographer Tanisha Scott crafted the dance sequence and has previously worked with Rihanna, Drake, and Beyoncé. Also, the music featured in Jonze’s short includes “Conticinio” by Guitarricadelafuente and “Perfect” by Sam I, with Tropkillaz ft Bia & MC Pikachu.
While we’re grateful for another short film, we’re also still waiting for some sign that Jonze is looking to get back to scripted feature films after tackling the documentary “Beastie Boys Story” in 2020 and his last theatrical feature effort was 2013’s “Her,” a touching love story between a user and the A.I. in his phone.
