'Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom': James Wan Reveals Title To The Highly Anticipated DC Superhero Sequel

Typically, when you have a film that makes $1 billion at the box office and kickstarts a huge superhero franchise, a studio will desperately try to rush out a sequel. Well, for “Aquaman,” which hit theaters in 2018, Warner Bros. is taking its time to get the sequel on the big screen, as it’s not supposed to arrive until the end of 2022. But even though that means we have more than a year before we see Jason Momoa return as Arthur Curry, development continues to move forward, as we finally learn what the sequel will actually be called.

According to a social media post from director James Wan, “Aquaman 2” is officially called “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” What is the Lost Kingdom? Why can’t anyone find it? And how does Aquaman figure into all of this? Those are questions we still don’t have answers for, but we’re going to guess it involves Jason Momoa taking off his shirt and showing off his abs at least 3 or 4 times throughout the runtime. Kidding aside, fan reaction to “Aquaman” was massive, with the biggest DCEU box office yet. So, there’s a lot riding on ‘Lost Kingdom,’ as WB is hoping that Momoa and Wan can continue to bring in Marvel Studios-esque box office numbers to the DC franchise.

While we don’t know the story of ‘Lost Kingdom,’ we do know that there will be some people from the original film joining Momoa in the new feature. Amber Heard has been very vocal with her excitement about returning to the “Aquaman” franchise. And it’s assumed that Yaya Abdul-Mateen II will be returning as the villainous Black Manta.

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is expected to arrive in theaters on December 16, 2022.
