Kenya Barris is one of the most in-demand creators and screenwriters working in comedy today. Not only is he the man behind “Black-ish,” the popular sitcom that has run for seven seasons, but Barris wrote “Coming 2 America” and the upcoming remake of “Cheaper by the Dozen.” Now, he’s set to make his directorial debut with the help of another comedy heavyweight, Jonah Hill.

According to THR, Jonah Hill and Kenya Barris are teaming up for an untitled comedy film that will eventually find its way to Netflix. Hill and Barris are both co-writing the script for the feature, which is said to be inspired by the classic film, “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” which is the story of a white couple’s shock to find their daughter bringing home a Black fiancé. In addition to co-writing, Hill is expected to star in the film.
While he hasn’t had a ton of on-screen appearances lately, Hill is beginning to fill up his schedule recently. He is expected to star in Adam McKay’s upcoming Netflix film, “Don’t Look Up,” which will arrive at the end of the year. And recently, he signed on to produce and star in a new limited series about famed Hollywood fixer Sidney Korshak.

In addition to this new comedy, Barris is already signed on to write and direct a biopic about legendary stand-up comedian, Richard Pryor. Though, with the new untitled comedy with Hill expected to begin filming this fall in Los Angeles, the Pryor film will likely have to wait a little while before entering production.
And much like everything else coming to Netflix, it’s far too soon to know an expected release date. Though, if filming does begin this fall, a 2022 date is likely.
