Got a Tip?

Arcade Fire Collaborator Owen Pallett Says ‘Her’ Score May Be Released When Film Hits DVD

Her Joaquin Phoenix Chris Pratt

Yeah, we know. With the movie winding down its multiplex, the Oscars handed out (with a win for Spike Jonze for Best Original Screenplay), “Her” seems a bit like old news. There is still one piece of unfinished business left circling the tech based romantic drama—the excellent score by Arcade Fire. The Oscar nominated work is still MIA in the form of an official release, but it seems it could be coming down the line.

It crossed our radar at the time, but then we kinda forgot about it, but a couple weeks back just before the Oscars, Owen Pallett chatted with The Canadian Press about his work on the movie, and in particular, his last minute arrival to help put the finishing touches on the work. “It seemed that Spike was not feeling the sort of futuristic approach to the score and wanted something that was a little bit more emotional,” Pallett explained. So what did he do?

“A lot of it was interpreting what Spike wanted and translating it into music. I can’t really stress enough just how collaborative the whole process was,” he explained, adding that he had to “basically write 10 minutes of new music.”

The results speak for itself, but when can we own the thing in our own two hands either physically or (legally) digitally? According to the CP article Pallet says “there’s a ‘rumor’ it might be out when the movie hits DVD.” But there’s no date for the DVD yet.

Until then, keep hope alive and maybe give “Her” another spin in theaters before it leaves. It’s certainly better than anything else opening in cinemas this weekend.
